Man, it’s hard to get back into posting when you haven’t done it in so long, but here goes nothing!
As I was reading through Psalm 119 this morning some things really stood out to me, so I figured that’s what I would kick off the new posting with. We’ll start with verse 103, where the Psalmist says:
“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” ESV
Wow, what a statement, what a comparison. The Psalmist compares the sweetness of God’s Words to the taste of honey in his mouth; he even says God’s Words are sweeter!
Let me ask you a question, when was the last time you tasted honey?
I’m not talking about in your tea, or oatmeal. I’m talking about a big mouthful of 90 proof, straight from the comb honey. Yeah, I can’t remember the last time I have either. However, we do buy some fresh, local honey here in the Shire and let me just say, it is wonderful!
This morning as I was meditating on this passage, I went and got a big spoonful of honey, and to be honest I don’t know if there is anything more naturally sweet and tasteful than honey, and this Psalmist compares God’s Words to this. He says they are even sweeter than honey! O Lord, let me cherish the sweetness of Your Word in this way. Let me love Your Word like this today, tomorrow and the rest of my days!
So here’s a thought: Go get you some honey, get a big spoonful, eat it, and pray that the Lord, by His grace would cause His Word to be even sweeter than this in your mouth!
Peace,
Nate
Nate,
I haven’t had honey for awhile . . . I need to do that, I love the sweetness of honey. I have taken big gulps of God’s Word, just a few minutes ago, in fact, and David was right, it is sweet and nourishing to the soul. This reminds me of I Sam. 14:24ff, and Jonathan’s consumption of honey vs. those (because of Saul’s arrogance) who didn’t eat the honey–Jonathan was invigorated and was nourished to fight the “good fight” while those w/o the honey were famished, and weak w/o strength (talk about allegorizing
).
Anyway you’re right, God’s Word should be consumed, it is nourishing and gives us strength to fight the good fight, as we get to “know” the sweetness of our Savior that much more deeply.
Keep posting, this was excellent!
Thanks Bobby. I like the allegorizing!
Peace
Great word about His Word!
Nate,
That ***WAS*** excellent! I look forward to reading more!
Nate, is your stand for FG theology starting to dwindle? Links for Michael Horton, Reformation21, Monergism, and all the rest of the Lordship and Calvinist links makes me concerned. Then quoting from the ESV, is kind of like the last nail in the coffin of dispensational grace theology.
Maybe you are growing out of FG. Are your concerns and comments that you have had on my blog in the past only that, your opinions of the past? Do you now stand with the theologies that you once stood against?
Lordship Calvinism and Puritanism has become the trendy religious association of the early 21st century, yet truth stays the same.
Tell me it ain’t so. Please tell me I have it all wrong. Please tell me that there is a good explanation other than you “broadening” your theological horizon.
Antonio
Gojira,
good to see ya around!
Antonio,
I think we talked about some of these things when I linked to, and talked about the White Horse inn on the old blog. I actually would like to have a discussion about FG with you sometime, not here in this post though.
There are some serious concerns I have with some strands of FG, but you probably picked that up already.
What must a person do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!
Peace,
Nate
Nate My Brother
Thanks for bringing the word. Even just a little bit of it is sweet and brings true satisfaction. I honestly believe that the word (and our physical presence in one another’s lives – sorry to highlight the key flaw of blog-land) is the best gift that we can give each other.
thanks,
Will
Will,
